Great Migration & River Crossing – 3 Days
Fly-in experience focused entirely on the dramatic Mara River crossings at Kogatende.

This 7-day safari allows you to experience the highlights of Tanzania's Northern Circuit in full. You will have a breath-taking wildlife experience in some of the most famous areas of Serengeti National Park. The wildebeest migration — the movement of vast numbers of Serengeti wildebeest accompanied by large numbers of zebra and other animals — is an annual pattern which is fairly predictable.
Witness millions of wildebeest and zebra thundering across vast savannahs alongside predators and diverse ecosystems — from the shallow soda shores of Lake Manyara alive with flamingo legions and elephant parades, to the Serengeti's endless plains, the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire's baobab labyrinth and elephant herds.
Pick up from Arusha and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park. After entrance formalities we head into the park for an afternoon game drive. This national park is one of Tanzania's most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake covering two thirds of the park, located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley's western escarpment. The park's varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals including one of Africa's largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara's unique tree-climbing lions (rare) as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake.
Kankari Lodge (Full Board)After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater before travelling onwards to the Serengeti National Park. Here the biggest wildebeest and zebra migration takes place. After an extensive game drive, you will drive to your campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Friends Camps Central Serengeti (Full Board)The entire day is set aside for more game drives in the Serengeti. The Serengeti is habitat for an abundance of wildlife — impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos — but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebra and wildebeest. In November and December, animals move from the northern region, dominated by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Apart from migrating herds, predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs are always lurking close by.
Friends Camps Serengeti Migration Kogatende (Full Board)This will be your final day spent in the Serengeti — truly one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Continue to enjoy the wide range of animals and birds. By now you will be an expert — make sure to ask the guide to take you to the place where you most desire to see before departing.
Friends Camps Serengeti Migration Kogatende (Full Board)After an early breakfast you will head out for another game drive in the Serengeti. You might also witness some of the Big Five before embarking on your journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves offering you an uninterrupted game viewing experience. Arriving at the edge of the crater you will have your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day.
Kankari Lodge Karatu (Full Board)For early risers you will be able to witness the breath-taking view of the rising sun over the crater edge. After a hearty breakfast you will drive down the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, formed millions of years ago, is 610m deep and covers roughly 280 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In a matter of minutes you will see wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, elephants and some of more than 500 birds — and if you're lucky, the black rhino.
Kankari Lodge (Full Board)After your breakfast you will drive to your final destination — Tarangire National Park. The park runs along the Tarangire River and is made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of acacia woodland and giant African baobab trees. Tarangire is famously known for some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa. After a picnic lunch, you will do an afternoon game drive en-route back to Arusha for dinner or late lunch awaiting airport transfer.
